Programme Info

Elei is a free eight-week Siva Sāmoa program for young girls aged between five to eighteen years old. There are four age classes where each learn Gagana Sāmoa, through the singing of traditional Sāmoan songs and dances. Each class have designated class student volunteer leaders who assist our friendly and experienced tutors with icebreaker games, learning dance moves and connecting with others. Classes have their own lavalava colours to create a sense of belonging. During the eight weeks, girls have access to online videos of their class dances to practice at home. Families are required to purchase (and keep) a class uniform puletasi and an ula nifo (white shark teeth necklace) for the end of term Fiafia Night. Our sei’s (hand-made flowers by our volunteer parents) are loaned to each class performance and returned by the end of the night. Elei is our safe space, designed to support girls at any stage of their cultural identity journey, whether new to Sāmoan culture, a confident Sāmoan or non-Sāmoan, we welcome all to explore your journey with us!
