Programme Info

Puletasi is a free eight-week sewing and Siva Sāmoa program prioritized for mothers of children registered in our Elei or Mamanu programs, and in some cases, is also open to our wider La'ei community members. Our objective is for mothers to learn basic sewing skills of how to sew a puletasi or lavalava that will help alleviate seamstress costs for their children’s Fiafia night uniforms. This has also been an opportunity to develop sewing and fashion skills to generate income as a side hustle! This program is free, but requires a refundable bond to secure commitment. La’ei provide sewing machines (on loan during sessions only), however bringing own sewing machine is preferred. Mothers also have an option to participate in the Siva Sāmoa component, which is delivered after the sewing session. The final dance is performed at the end of term Fiafia Night. The Siva part is also open to all women 18yrs+ who are not necessarily a part of the sewing program. If you desire to connect with other women, develop new friendships in your community while tapping into your creative potential, then this program is for you. Spaces are limited, and a selection process is conducted by the tutors to confirm places.
